Biocolourants from onion crop side streams and forest mushroom for regenerated cellulose fibres

Biocolourants and sustainable textile materials have gained growing interest. Traditionally natural dyes been used for dyeing wool silk, but demand cotton regenerated cellulose fibres increases because of their popularity especially in clothing. This study expands the dye research to one latest innovations among cellulosic fibres, i.e. Ioncell®. It explains first time dyeability Ioncell–F with biocolourants compares results three other viscose, bamboo viscose lyocell, using protein fibre as a reference. The colourants from food side stream, yellow onion (Allium cepa cv. Settonia) forest mushroom Cortinarius semisanguineus were dyes. composition each sources was analyzed detail. Methods exhaust (80 °C, 1 h), alum, FeSO4 tannin mordants, high temperature pressure (130 h) applied. colour dyed studied CIE L*, a*, b*, C*ab, hab K/S (λ420/480 nm) values. colourfastness washing light examined according ISO standards. showed that strongest obtained polyphenols acidic conditions, whereas anthraquinones remained revealing hindering forces between fibre. values at highest iron aluminium mordanted samples, which indicate metal ions’ ability stabilize organic compound’s structure form strong coordination bonding dye. varied poor moderate. exhaustion levels different very little. search colourants, applications long lifetime artefacts is strongly supported by sustainability goals, colourant production connection agricultural industries support this emerging field.
